Three days is enough for a genuine Masai Mara safari. Five to seven days lets you combine two or three parks without rushing. Ten days is where a trip stops feeling like a checklist.
The most common planning error is not choosing the wrong park, it is choosing too many. Here is what each trip length actually buys you on the ground.
Three days: the Mara, done properly
Fly in, two full game drive days, fly out. Do not add a second park. The drive between parks eats the middle day and you will arrive home having spent more time in a vehicle on tarmac than on the plains.
- Day 1: Nairobi to Mara by air, afternoon game drive
- Day 2: Full day in the reserve with a picnic lunch
- Day 3: Dawn drive, then fly back to Nairobi
Five days: two landscapes, one country
Five days is the sweet spot for a first trip. Amboseli for elephants under Kilimanjaro, then the Mara for predators, with a Rift Valley lake if you prefer water birds and boat safaris to a second savannah.

Seven to ten days: adding depth or a border
At seven days you can add Samburu in the north for species you will not see further south, or cross into Tanzania for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. At ten days, Zanzibar becomes a sensible finish rather than a rushed appendix.
