Bujumbura sits on the northern tip of Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest and second oldest lake on earth, looking straight across at the mountains of the Congo. The beaches south of the city are genuine white sand, the fish is grilled on the shore, and almost nobody who travels East Africa has been.
For Kenyan travellers it is a two hour flight to somewhere that feels completely new.
