About Volcanoes

Volcanoes National Park protects the Rwandan slopes of the Virunga massif, five extinct volcanoes cloaked in bamboo and hagenia forest.

This is where Dian Fossey did her work at Karisoke, and it remains the most comfortable gorilla trek in Africa: tarmac from the airport, boutique lodges at the trailheads and habituated families often reached within one to three hours of walking.
